On Practicing & Performing: The relationship between practicing and performing is an interesting one. I think it is important for every musician, especially singers, to take the time to find the important differences and similarities between these two aspects of their craft. Typically, singers are outgoing, social people who find performing to be a little scary but also a fun exciting experience. Practicing, on the other hand, is at times boring and requires discipline not only to do on a regular basis, but to find the energy to do well. The beauty of the two disciplines is that for all the repetition and analysis required for practicing, performing is the complete opposite. Performing is the moment where nothing else matters except letting go, having fun and using all the skills you've worked on in a spontaneous burst of creativity in order to express yourself. You can't really have successful performances if you don't successfully practice. I encourage all students to embrace both sides of being a singer in order to be the best artist they can be.
